American Deafness and Rehabilitation Association (ADARA) Closing Plenary
ADARA hosted a five-day conference on issues that affect the DDBDDHH Community. ADARA lined up presentations on topics including, health, language, communication access, relationships, art, access to justice, and more.
HEARD’s was invited to present the closing plenary at the conference. The topic of Talila “TL” Lewis’ closing plenary was “Justice Denied: The Myth of Deaf Access to Justice.” The presentation focused on Cross-Movement Building, Intersectionality, Mass Incarceration, the School to Prison Pipeline, Deaf Access to Justice, Deaf In Prison, Disability Solidarity & accountability of disability, civil rights and deaf rights organizations.
HEARD Intern Mabel Najarro & Youth Advocate Tina Banerjee, as well as NTID Student Life Team Director Debbye Byrne were instrumental in the effort.
